The Delta State Government has commenced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services at Asaba Specialist Hospital with the installation of a Siemens 1.5 Tesla helium-free MRI scanner, making it the first health facility in Nigeria to deploy the technology.
Announcing the development, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Peace Ighosewe, described the milestone as a major boost to healthcare delivery in Delta State. She commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the strategic investment, noting that it reflects the administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare under the MORE Agenda.
To mark the commencement of the service, the hospital offered free MRI scans for two days, with more than 10 patients benefiting from the initiative. Dr. Ighosewe said the advanced equipment will improve access to specialised medical imaging, reduce the need for patients to seek MRI services outside the state, and support faster, more accurate diagnosis and treatment.
