The Abia State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eric Opah, has expressed confidence in his chances ahead of the 2027 election, declaring that the support he receives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gives him strong assurance of victory.
Opah made the statement while reacting to comments by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who had predicted that the incumbent Governor Alex Otti would emerge victorious in the 2027 governorship election.
The APC candidate said he would not engage in a political battle with any leader over the matter, insisting that his focus remained on his support for President Tinubu and the political structure he has been building.
“I am the candidate of Mr. President. Therefore, our hope is very sure. Mr. President will not leave his own party for another political party,” Opah said.
He added that he respected the opinions of political leaders but remained committed to his own conviction and campaign direction.
“So, I am not going to join issue with any leader for whatsoever. For me, the same way they believe in Mr. President is the same way I believe in Mr. President. So, there is no question of listening to anybody,” he stated.
Reacting to differing views about the 2027 contest, Opah said every individual had the right to express their opinion but maintained that he remained confident in his political path.
“Whatever anybody says is entitled to his own opinion. So, for me, I believe in what we are doing and I believe in Mr. President,” he said.
The APC governorship hopeful further vowed to strengthen his support base, saying he would continue backing the political structure he had supported over the past two years.
“So, I ask you and since this structure I have been supporting for the last two years, now I will support it more and more and more,” Opah added.
The statement comes amid increasing political activities in Abia ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with key political actors already positioning themselves for the contest.
