The Anambra State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, as the new Commissioner of Police in the state.
CP Oji Ama officially assumed office on Monday, August 10, 2026, following the retirement of the immediate past Commissioner, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
The new police commissioner brings over 30 years of experience in intelligence, criminal investigation, tactical operations, administration and strategic policing to his new assignment.
Prior to his deployment to Anambra, CP Oji Ama served as Commissioner of Police, Intelligence and Training, at the Force Intelligence Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
A native of Ekata in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, the new commissioner holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Jos and received professional police training at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
His previous assignments include Area Commander, Nnewi; Deputy Commissioner of Police, General Investigation, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja; Commanding Officer of various Police Mobile Force formations and Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command.
He has also attended several professional and strategic courses in Nigeria and abroad.
CP Oji Ama was recognised for bravery in 2007 following the recovery of an AK-47 rifle during a shootout with armed robbers in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking after assuming office, the new commissioner pledged to consolidate the security gains recorded in Anambra State and strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, women and other stakeholders.
He assured residents, visitors and businesses of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, combating crime and maintaining law and order across the state.
CP Oji Ama also called for the support and cooperation of residents, stressing that effective policing requires partnership between security agencies and the communities they serve.
