No fewer than 7,000 households in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area have received food items under the Akwa Ibom State Government’s ongoing relief programme aimed at easing the impact of rising food prices on vulnerable families.
The latest phase of the intervention was carried out on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Ikot Ekpene Stadium, where beneficiaries from the local government received food items provided by the State Government.
Representing the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, said the intervention was part of the administration’s efforts to support families facing economic challenges.
She said, the fourth phase of the food relief programme is the largest since its commencement, with 217,000 bags of rice and beans distributed across the 31 local government areas of the State as each local government receives 7,000 bags for distribution.
Commending the turnout of the beneficiaries, The General Manager of the Akwa Ibom State Bulk Purchase Agency, Rt. Hon. Unyime Etim, urged the beneficiaries to maintain peace and order during the distribution.
In his remarks, Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, lauded the State Governor Eno for providing timely relief adding that the intervention would provide immediate relief to households in need.
Beneficiaries thanked the State Governor, saying the food items would help reduce the burden of feeding their families.
Commending the Governor for the provision of food relief to beneficiaries were Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien; Member Representing Ikot Ekpene State Constituency, Hon. Jerry Otu; and the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong.
