The new Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has commenced moves to strengthen community participation in crime prevention and improve collaboration between the Police and residents across the state.
As part of the initiative, the Commissioner will host Security Stakeholders’ Interactive Sessions across the three senatorial districts of Anambra State from Wednesday, August 12 to Friday, August 14, 2026.
The engagement, according to the Anambra State Police Command, is aimed at deepening community-based policing in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police and strengthening partnerships with communities.
The sessions will provide stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss security challenges in their respective areas, share credible intelligence and develop practical strategies for preventing crime and sustaining peace.
Expected participants include traditional rulers, local government chairmen, presidents-general of town unions, youth and women leaders, religious leaders, market leaders and other critical stakeholders.
The Command said the meetings would also promote intelligence-led policing by encouraging communities to provide timely information that could assist security agencies in detecting and preventing criminal activities.
The first session will hold in Anambra South Senatorial District at Anaedo Hall, Nnewi, on Wednesday, August 12, by 12 noon.
The Anambra North Senatorial District session will follow at the Umueri Civic Centre on Thursday, August 13, while the engagement will end in Anambra Central Senatorial District at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, on Friday, August 14. Both sessions are scheduled for 12 noon.
The Police said the initiative is particularly important in strengthening early-warning mechanisms, improving intelligence gathering and enabling faster responses to emerging security threats.
The Command stressed that security remains a collective responsibility, requiring sustained cooperation among security agencies, government institutions, traditional institutions, community organisations and residents.
The Commissioner of Police urged all invited stakeholders to attend the sessions and actively participate by presenting security concerns and actionable recommendations that could contribute to a safer Anambra State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement, said the engagements formed part of CP Oji Ama’s efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships and improve public safety across the state.
The Command added that the sessions would also allow the Commissioner to hear directly from community leaders and residents while outlining the Police’s security strategies and expectations from stakeholders.
