The Anambra State Police Command has pledged to bear the full medical expenses of the surviving child among four siblings who were found unconscious in Ideani, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The new Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, made the commitment on Monday during his maiden media briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Awka.
The Commissioner expressed deep sadness over the incident, revealing that the four children, aged six, nine, 12 and 15, were found unconscious in the community.
According to him, despite efforts by medical personnel to save their lives, three of the children were confirmed dead, while the fourth is currently receiving intensive medical treatment.
CP Oji Ama said the Command would closely monitor the survivor’s treatment and ensure that every necessary medical intervention is provided.
He described the child’s recovery as the immediate priority of the Command, while assuring residents that the circumstances surrounding the deaths would be handled professionally.
The Commissioner also pledged to review the Command’s policing strategies and strengthen intelligence gathering, technology-driven policing, operational efficiency and proactive crime prevention across the state.
He said the Command would deepen community policing and collaboration with sister security agencies, organised vigilante groups, traditional institutions and other critical stakeholders to improve public safety.
CP Oji Ama called on Ndi Anambra to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to assist in preventing and combating crime.
He also urged journalists to maintain factual, balanced and responsible reporting, particularly when covering sensitive security matters.
The Commissioner assured residents that the Police Command under his leadership would remain committed to protecting lives and property, upholding the rule of law and creating a safer environment for residents, visitors and businesses across Anambra State.
He further appealed to residents to report suspicious persons, activities and incidents to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency channels.
