Former South-East spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, Denge Josef Onoh, has commended Governor Peter Mbah for what he described as a deliberate and results-oriented transformation of Enugu State, particularly in security, healthcare, industrial development and job creation.
Onoh, who is also Chairman of the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, said the policies and projects of the Mbah administration were increasingly aligned with the broader economic and development agenda of the Federal Government.
Speaking on the administration’s security initiatives, Onoh praised the deployment of technology and intelligence-driven strategies to combat crime and improve public safety across the state.
He cited the establishment of the Enugu State Security Command and Control Centre, the deployment of 150 artificial intelligence-enabled patrol vehicles and the creation of the Enugu State Security Trust Fund as key interventions.
According to him, the security measures, coupled with intensified enforcement, have contributed to the restoration of normal economic activities on Mondays following the end of the illegal sit at home order.
Onoh also highlighted the administration’s investment in healthcare, particularly the construction of 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state’s 260 wards.
He said the centres were designed to provide modern medical equipment, staff accommodation, renewable energy and water infrastructure, while noting that the government was also upgrading 51 secondary healthcare facilities and completing the 300-bed Enugu International Hospital.
On industrial development, Onoh described the revival of dormant state-owned enterprises as one of the administration’s most significant economic initiatives.
He specifically cited the revival of Nigergas Company Limited in Emene, which he said had remained dormant for decades before being restored to production.
According to him, the facility produces medical oxygen and industrial gases for hospitals, manufacturers, welders and agro-processors, while creating direct and indirect employment opportunities.
He also commended ongoing efforts to revive Sunrise Flour Mills and United Palm Products Limited through private-sector partnerships.
Onoh said the initiatives demonstrated how abandoned public assets could be transformed into productive enterprises capable of creating jobs, supporting local production and strengthening value chains.
He further noted that the administration’s land-bank and farm-estate initiatives across the state’s 260 wards could help connect agriculture with processing and manufacturing.
The former presidential spokesperson said the focus on production, industrialisation, infrastructure and job creation was consistent with President Tinubu’s economic philosophy of moving Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy towards production, value addition and exports.
He argued that security, healthcare and industrialisation were interconnected pillars of development, stressing that a secure environment attracts investment, a healthy population provides productive human capital, while functional industries create employment and generate revenue.
Onoh therefore urged other state governments to study what he described as the emerging Enugu model of combining security investment, grassroots healthcare, industrial revival and private-sector participation.
He also appealed to residents of Enugu State to support the continuity of the administration, saying Governor Mbah’s programmes should be given time to deliver sustainable results.
“Security, healthcare and industrialisation are not isolated sectors, but interconnected pillars of development,” Onoh said, stressing that the ultimate measure of governance should be its impact on the lives of citizens.
