The Anambra State Police Command has warned motorists using tinted-glass vehicles without the required permit to obtain the appropriate authorisation or remove the unauthorised tint.
The warning followed an incident in which police officers reportedly rejected a ₦200,000 bribe offered by a motorist stopped for allegedly using tinted glass without the necessary permit.
According to the Command, the officers refused the money and instead directed the motorist to either remove the unauthorised tint or obtain the appropriate permit, where applicable.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the officers had demonstrated professionalism and integrity, describing their action as part of the Command’s commitment to enforcing the law without compromise under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama.
The Command explained that regulations governing tinted-glass vehicles are intended to support public safety and effective policing by addressing security concerns associated with limited visibility into vehicles.
It therefore advised motorists who do not wish to obtain the required permit to remove tinted materials from their vehicles and comply with applicable regulations.
The Police also cautioned motorists against offering money or other inducements to officers in an attempt to evade lawful enforcement.
The Command urged members of the public to report any police officer who demands money during tinted-glass enforcement or other official duties, assuring that personnel found culpable would face disciplinary action.
The Anambra Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and zero tolerance for corruption, while calling on residents to cooperate with security agencies in maintaining peace and security across the state.
