Tragedy struck in Aba, Abia State, after two persons were reportedly feared dead while attempting to manually evacuate an underground sewage tank.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 10, 2026, at No. 10, Power Line, off Omuma Road, Aba, during an evacuation operation said to have taken place around midnight.
Following the incident, the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) on Tuesday sealed the building as investigations and necessary safety measures got underway.

ASEPA, while expressing concern over the incident, warned residents against manually entering or attempting to evacuate underground sewage and septic tanks due to the serious risks involved.
