The Anambra State Police Command has recovered two locally fabricated pistols and three caps bearing inscriptions associated with the Vikings Confraternity from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area.
The items were recovered by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit during a routine patrol along the Isuaniocha Bridge on Thursday.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives spotted two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number.
He said the riders made a sudden and reckless turn after sighting the police team, prompting the operatives to pursue them.
Ikenga explained that during the chase, the suspects fell from the motorcycle and abandoned it, alongside two slippers and a bag, before fleeing into a nearby bush.
A search of the abandoned bag reportedly led to the recovery of the two locally fabricated pistols and three caps bearing inscriptions linked to the Vikings Confraternity.
The Police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their identities, affiliations and the circumstances surrounding their possession of the recovered items.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in tracking down individuals involved in criminal and cult-related activities across the state.
