The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Osborn Umahi, has intensified his campaign ahead of the state’s local government elections scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, led supporters on a campaign rally in Ohaozara on Monday, August 17, with party faithful and residents gathering at the St. Margaret Umahi Pavilion in Uburu to show support for his candidacy.
The campaign followed his emergence as the APC candidate after obtaining the party’s nomination and expression-of-interest forms for the Ohaozara chairmanship election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Minister of Works’ Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, the campaign was described as a demonstration of growing support for Umahi across the council area.
The statement described the candidate as an engineer, financial expert and experienced leader, adding that his professional background and leadership experience positioned him to provide what it termed “purposeful and responsive leadership” if elected.
According to the statement, the campaign attracted significant support from residents who expressed their desire for what they described as a new generation of leadership in Ohaozara.

“The people of Ohaozara Local Government Area have demonstrated strong support and enthusiasm for the emergence of their young and vibrant son, Engr. Osborn Umahi, as a new generation of leadership,” the statement said.
The campaign also highlighted Umahi’s connection to the local government, presenting his candidacy as an opportunity to usher in fresh ideas and leadership focused on the needs of residents.
With the election only days away, the campaign team said its priority had now shifted from building acceptability to mobilising voters for victory at the polls.
The Ebonyi State local government election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with Umahi seeking to emerge as chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area on the APC platform.
