The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, has commended residents of Obollo-Afor in Udenu Local Government Area for their vigilance and prompt action which led to the arrest of a suspected transformer vandal.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, residents discovered the 23-year-old suspect trapped inside a transformer enclosure after reportedly sustaining severe burns while allegedly attempting to vandalise the facility.
The community promptly alerted the police, prompting officers from the Udenu Divisional Police Headquarters to respond to the scene.
The suspect, who was reportedly found unconscious, was evacuated to a nearby hospital where he was resuscitated before being referred to a specialist hospital for further treatment.
Preliminary investigations have reportedly linked the suspect to the alleged vandalism of transformers in the area.
The police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of his activities, identify possible accomplices and establish the appropriate legal action.
Commissioner Giwa praised the residents for their vigilance and cooperation with security agencies, stressing that protecting critical public infrastructure requires the collective efforts of security agencies and communities.
He urged residents across the state to remain alert and provide the police with timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
