The Ebonyi State Police Command has commenced the deployment of security personnel across the state ahead of Saturday’s local government elections scheduled for August 22, 2026.

The deployment covers all 13 Local Government Areas, including polling units and strategic locations, as part of measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Okafor, is coordinating the security arrangements in collaboration with other security agencies to protect voters, electoral officials, observers and other stakeholders.

The police also announced a restriction of vehicular and human movement across Ebonyi State from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, except for persons on essential and election-related duties.

Those exempted include officials of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, accredited journalists and observers, emergency medical personnel, authorised security officers and other approved essential service providers.

The command said exempted persons would be required to present valid identification and official accreditation at security checkpoints.

CP Okafor warned political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders against inflammatory statements, violence and actions capable of disrupting the election.

She said anyone found attempting to undermine public peace or violate electoral and other relevant laws would be arrested and prosecuted.

The Commissioner urged voters to remain peaceful, obey lawful instructions from security personnel and avoid acts capable of creating tension during the polls.

She assured residents that the police, working with sister security agencies, had put adequate measures in place to ensure a peaceful, secure and hitch-free local government election across Ebonyi State.
