The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Hope Uzodinma to focus more attention on governance in the state rather than what it described as frequent political engagements outside Imo.
The party made the call in a statement issued in Owerri by its State Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, following the defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The PDP noted that Uzodinma had led the APC National Campaign Council for the Osun election, alongside other senior party leaders and governors, but failed to secure victory for the party.
The opposition party also recalled Uzodinma’s leadership of the APC campaign council during the 2021 Anambra governorship election, which the party lost to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Describing the two outcomes as a lesson in electoral politics, the PDP said election victories ultimately depend on the support of the people.
The party consequently urged the governor to redirect his attention to challenges facing residents of Imo State.
Obiaku alleged that several roads across the state had deteriorated, particularly during the rainy season, while some ring roads, bypasses and rural roads remained uncompleted.
The PDP also raised concerns over the condition of some public schools, alleging inadequate infrastructure, teaching materials and personnel.
On security, the party expressed concern over reported criminal activities in communities including Ihiagwa and Avu, urging the state government to intensify efforts to protect residents.
The PDP said Uzodinma’s primary responsibility was to provide good roads, quality education, security, healthcare, employment opportunities and a conducive environment for economic growth.
“Return home and govern,” the party urged the governor, arguing that the people of Imo elected him to address the challenges confronting the state.
The party maintained that the outcome of the Osun election demonstrated that political power ultimately rests with the electorate and urged the governor to prioritise the interests of Imo residents.
