The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has called on leaders of the Arewa community across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas to strengthen their partnership with the police by providing timely and credible information to prevent crime and protect lives and property.
CP Oji Ama made the call on Monday when he hosted leaders of the Arewa community at the Police Command Headquarters in Amawbia, Awka, as part of efforts to deepen community policing and promote peaceful coexistence in the state.
The Commissioner said the engagement was aimed at creating an avenue for dialogue on security concerns and developing practical measures to address emerging threats.
He stressed that effective policing could not be achieved by the police alone, noting that community leaders, residents and other stakeholders have critical roles to play in maintaining peace and security.
Oji Ama particularly urged the Arewa leaders to encourage their members to share useful intelligence with security agencies and cooperate with lawful security operations.
He assured the delegation that the Command would maintain an open-door policy and continue to engage all law-abiding communities, irrespective of ethnic, religious or social background.
According to him, timely intelligence-sharing, mutual trust and collective responsibility remain key components of his policing strategy for building a safer Anambra.
The Commissioner also urged communities across the state to maintain peaceful relationships and work closely with security agencies to resolve security concerns before they escalate into crises.
Responding, the Chairman of the Arewa Community in Anambra State and National Deputy Director-General of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Gidado Siddiki Sarki, commended the Commissioner and the police leadership for their accessibility and willingness to engage with the community.
Siddiki expressed appreciation for the initiative, stressing the importance of sustained dialogue and cooperation between the police and the Arewa community in promoting peace and security across Anambra.
The engagement forms part of the Anambra State Police Command’s broader community-policing strategy aimed at strengthening trust, improving intelligence gathering and fostering peaceful coexistence among the diverse communities in the state.
