The National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office, NASSCO, has provided life jackets to enumerators working in riverine communities across Anambra State to improve their safety and facilitate data collection.
The intervention, implemented through the Anambra State Operations Coordinating Unit, ANSOCU, is targeted at field officers who rely on waterways to access hard-to-reach communities, particularly during the rainy season.
Receiving the safety equipment in Awka on August 24, the Anambra State Coordinator, Mr. George Asoegwu, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and NASSCO for the timely intervention.
Asoegwu said concerns over waterway transportation had previously made some enumerators reluctant to travel to riverine communities, potentially affecting the collection and updating of data.
He explained that improved safety would enable more field officers to reach vulnerable residents and ensure they are properly captured in government social protection programmes.
“With these life jackets now, we will be confident to mobilise more enumerators to these places to generate and update more data,” Asoegwu said.
The life jackets were delivered by a NASSCO administrative staff member, Mr. Michael Akpan.
The agency said the intervention is expected to strengthen field operations, protect enumerators and improve access to reliable data required for effective social protection planning and implementation across Anambra State.
