The 13 newly elected Local Government Area Chairmen in Ebonyi State have been sworn into office, following the All Progressives Congress, APC, landslide victory in the state’s recent council elections.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, was attended by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi; Governor Francis Nwifuru; former Governor Martin Elechi; traditional rulers, government officials, political leaders, party stakeholders and supporters.
Governor Nwifuru administered the oath of office to the 13 chairmen and charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the people through effective leadership, accountability and responsive grassroots governance.
The ceremony came after the APC secured all 13 chairmanship positions and all councillorship seats contested in the statewide local government election.
The newly sworn-in chairmen are:
– Abakaliki: Chidiebere Onyema Alo
– Afikpo: Timothy Agha Uduma Nwachi
– Ebonyi: Odigwe Chibueze Nwelebe
– Edda: Oko Simeon Unuoha
– Ezza North: Nwuhuo Linus Friday
– Ezza South: Chinedu Mkpuma
– Ikwo: Nwode Chidi Henry
– Ishielu: Agwu Peace Ifeoma
– Ivo: Anym Michael Kalu
– Izzi: Helen Nnenna Aduga
– Ohaozara: Osborne Nweze Umahi
– Ohaukwu: Eze Paul Ituma
– Onicha: Ogbojia Ikechukwu
The new council chairmen are expected to focus on grassroots development, respond to the needs of their respective communities and work with the state government to improve service delivery across the 13 local government areas.
Their assumption of office marks the beginning of a new phase of local administration in Ebonyi State, with expectations for accountability, inclusive governance and tangible development at the grassroots.
