Contractors handling Kaa-Ataba and Borokiri-Okrika bridges being done
by Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, have been charged to increase the pace of work for speedy completion of the projects.
Minister of Regional Development, Chief Abubakar Momoh, who gave the charge during site inspection at Kaa Community, Rivers State, applauded NDDC for embarking on legacy projects across the region.
The projects inspected were six Kilometers Kaa-Ataba road, comprising the longest single bridge in Niger Delta region, measuring one point two Kilometers long as well as another bridge, measuring two hundred and fifty meters long and Okrika Borokiri Bridge, meant to connect Port Harcourt town to Okrika and Eleme Local Government Areas.
Speaking after the inspection, Minister of Regional Development, Chief Abubakar Momoh described the projects as legacy projects handled by Niger Delta Development Commission in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
Chief Momoh who was optimistic about the economic benefits of the projects, enjoined contractors to stick to specifications to guarantee durability and value for money.
On his part, Managing Director NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku while expressing satisfaction with the progress of work at Kaa-Ataba Bridge, promised that funding would not be a hindrance to speedy completion of the projects.
However at Borokiri-Okrika bridge, the MD warned the contractor to expedite action or risk termination of the project if no tangible progress was recorded within a few weeks.
Giving the project brief, Executive Director Projects EDP Dr.
Victor Antai gave assurance that efforts were being made to finish the Kaa-Ataba bridge and get it ready for inauguration before the end of the year.
In his response, the contractor handling Kaa-Ataba Bridge, Mr. Christian Emeozor assured NDDC team that ninety five percent of the first bridge has been done, saying that within one week, the remaining part would be concluded.
Mr. Emeozor noted that the project would open up economic and social activities in benefiting communities.
The projects stand as a demonstration of the move by NDDC to take development to the rural communities in the oil rich Niger Delta region.
