The Nigeria Customs Service Board, NCSB, has confirmed the appointment of one Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs and five Assistant Comptrollers-General following its 65th Regular Meeting held in Abuja.
The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Professor Taiwo Oyedele, also reviewed the Service’s revenue performance and other administrative and operational matters.
The newly confirmed Deputy Comptroller-General is Constantine Dim, representing the South-East.
The five Assistant Comptrollers-General are Pascal Chibuoke and Ethelbert Nnaji, both from the South-East; Sani Yahaya from the North-Central; and Franklin Onyeka and Chibuzor Eyakwaire from the South-South.
According to the Board, the appointments followed the statutory retirement of some senior officers and were made in line with the Federal Character Policy under Section 14(4) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
The Board also approved the elevation of the Nigeria Customs Service Medical Corps to a sub-department, to be headed by an Assistant Comptroller-General, with nine Comptrollers providing support.
It further received an update on the ongoing Customs recruitment exercise, with successful candidates scheduled to begin documentation, physical and medical screening from September 7.
On disciplinary matters, the Board considered several appeals and approved decisions ranging from dismissal and exoneration to warnings, compulsory retirement and reinstatement of affected officers.
Meanwhile, the Board reviewed the Service’s 2026 revenue performance against its annual target of 11.074 trillion naira.
As of the end of June, the Nigeria Customs Service had generated 4.30 trillion naira, representing 36.4 per cent of its annual revenue target.
The Board attributed ongoing revenue collection efforts to measures including the full deployment of the Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu, expanded post-clearance and real-time audits, the Authorised Economic Operator and advance ruling programmes, geospatial technology, joint border patrols and increased engagement with the trading community.
