The Abia State Government has sealed a building located on a river bank and directed tenants occupying the property to vacate the premises over safety concerns.
The state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this at the Government House, Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu explained that the decision to seal the building was taken as a precautionary measure to protect the occupants from potential danger associated with its location.
He said the government was concerned about the possibility of a structural or environmental incident that could result in loss of lives if the occupants remained in the building.
The commissioner urged the affected tenants to comply with the directive and vacate the premises in the interest of their safety.
The development is part of the state government’s efforts to address potential environmental and public safety risks across Abia State.
