A Special Criminal Court sitting as the Vacation Court in Benin City has ordered the remand of a security guard, Timothy Mark, over the alleged rape of an eight-year-old girl on multiple occasions.

The court, presided over by Hon. Justice A.T. Momodu, made the order on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in a case filed under Charge Number B/CD/2128M/2026.

According to the allegations contained in the case before the court, Mark allegedly abused the trust placed in him as a security guard at the residence of the victim’s family, where his duties reportedly gave him unrestricted access to the home.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant committed the offence on three separate occasions while he was left alone with the minor.

In preliminary statements reportedly made during investigation, the defendant allegedly claimed that he was intoxicated at the time of the incidents.

Mark was present in court during Tuesday’s proceedings, after which Justice Momodu ordered that he be remanded in custody pending further proceedings.

The prosecution was led by I.E. Ekibade, Esq., while Douglas Ogbankwa, Esq., represented the Nominal Complainant on behalf of the victim’s family.

Justice Momodu subsequently adjourned the matter until September 22, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.
