The Ebonyi State Government has showcased the achievements of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, calling for stronger citizen engagement and wider dissemination of information on government policies and programmes.
The call was made during a two-day workshop on Strategic Citizens’ Engagement, Sensitisation and Showcasing of the Achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, held at Remeritona Hotel in Abakaliki.
The workshop was organised by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Information in collaboration with Iykon Global Foundation.
Representing Governor Nwifuru at the event, Deputy Governor Princess Patricia Obila said the workshop was aimed at creating greater awareness of the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
She highlighted achievements in critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, local and overseas scholarship programmes and human capital development.
The Deputy Governor urged media organisations, social media platforms and citizens to actively participate in communicating the administration’s programmes and achievements.
She stressed that effective communication and citizens’ participation were essential to ensuring that government initiatives reached their intended beneficiaries and gained wider public understanding.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information, Barrister Ikeuwa Omebe, called for stronger collaboration among electronic, print and social media organisations to improve the coverage and reportage of government activities across the state.
Omebe said greater cooperation among media practitioners would facilitate wider dissemination of government policies, programmes and achievements.
The Executive Director of Iykon Global Foundation, Ambassador Eupraim Iyke Nwonu, said the organisation had conducted a statewide survey to provide factual and verifiable evidence of the achievements of the administration.
According to him, the survey was designed to make evidence-based information and pictorial documentation of government projects and programmes available to the public.
In a separate interview, the Head of Service, Dr RitaMary Okoro, stressed the importance of evidence-based reportage.
She urged media practitioners and other stakeholders to rely on facts, figures and verifiable information presented during the workshop when reporting government activities and achievements.
The workshop brought together government officials, media practitioners, religious and traditional leaders, representatives of non-governmental organisations, as well as women, youth and student leaders, among other stakeholders.
