Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has pledged the intervention of the State Government to facilitate the completion of the National Integrated Power Project, NIPP, Lot 18 Transmission Line along the Ikot Ekpene–Ikot Abasi axis of the State.
Governor Eno made the commitment when he received a delegation of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Jennifer Adighije, at Government House, Uyo.
The Governor said the intervention would help resolve outstanding challenges and fast-track completion of the 330-kilovolt transmission line, which he noted would significantly improve electricity supply across Akwa Ibom and contribute to the development of the nation’s power sector.
Earlier, the NDPHC Managing Director, Engineer Jennifer Adighije, commended Governor Eno for his willingness to intervene in the project, which she described as a significant complement to the State Government’s development efforts.
She explained that the project, which commenced about 20 years ago, had been stalled by several challenges, particularly the non-payment of wayleave compensation to affected communities.
Adighije said the delegation was in the State to brief the Governor on the challenges and seek government intervention to resolve the outstanding issues and enable the company complete the project.
The NDPHC boss also congratulated Governor Eno on the establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission, AKSERC, expressing the company’s readiness to collaborate with the State in developing an effective electricity market framework
She appealed to the State Government to assist in resolving the compensation and community-related issues for the benefit of residents and the nation at large.
