Members of the Wimpro International Film Academy have met with the President of the Benin Writers Society, Douglas Ogbankwa, to discuss a collaborative educational initiative aimed at connecting literary storytelling with filmmaking.
The Academy was represented during the meeting on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, by Pascal David and Doe Junior, who paid a formal visit to the Benin Writers Society to brief its leadership on an upcoming hybrid filmmaking training programme.
The intensive training, which will offer both physical and virtual learning opportunities, is scheduled to commence on September 28 and run until December 7, 2026.
ppiThe programme is designed to equip participants with practical filmmaking knowledge and professional skills while encouraging writers to explore the visual medium and translate literary stories into cinematic productions.
During the meeting, the Academy presented details of the training programme and highlighted opportunities available to members of the writing community interested in expanding their skills beyond traditional literary storytelling.
The engagement is also expected to strengthen collaboration between writers and filmmakers by creating opportunities for literary works to be developed and presented through film.
The visit served as a foundational step towards ensuring that members of the Benin writing community are adequately informed about the technical training, professional development opportunities and practical learning available through the seasonal filmmaking workshop.
The initiative is expected to further promote collaboration between the literary and film sectors while providing participants with additional avenues to develop, package and communicate stories through the screen.
