Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has granted a pardon to popular native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, widely known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, and appointed him as an Ambassador for Youth Reformation in the state.

The governor announced the pardon on Friday, September 18, 2026, during a visit to the Nigeria Correctional Service facility in Amawbia, where Nwangwu was serving a prison sentence following his conviction over offences connected to the promotion and practice of “Okeite” and related activities.

Nwangwu was among eight native doctors arrested in 2025 following the enactment of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law. He later entered a plea bargain with the state government and was sentenced following his conviction. As part of the conditions attached to his case, he was required to renounce the practices in question and participate in youth reformation efforts.

According to reports, Governor Soludo exercised his prerogative of mercy, resulting in Nwangwu’s immediate release from custody.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Youth Reformation, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, confirmed the development and described the appointment as part of the state’s approach to youth correction, rehabilitation and value reorientation.

Omenugha said the initiative reflects the principle that youth reformation should involve not only punishment but also correction, restoration and providing individuals with a new purpose.

With his new role, Nwangwu is expected to support the state’s youth reformation efforts and encourage young people to reject practices associated with quick wealth and embrace more constructive values.

The development marks a new chapter for the controversial native doctor, who will now be involved in efforts aimed at youth reorientation across Anambra State.
