Air Peace has offered lawyer and human rights activist Inibehe Effiong a 25 per cent discount on a one-way ticket across its domestic routes following the delayed Lagos–Enugu flight that affected him and other passengers.
Effiong disclosed the compensation offer on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, through a post on his X account, where he shared an email from the airline’s call centre.
In the email, Air Peace apologised for the disruption of flight P47100, which was scheduled to operate from Lagos to Enugu on September 21, 2026, and said it had approved the discounted ticket as compensation for the inconvenience caused.
The airline stated that the offer excludes taxes and is valid for six months from the date of the email, except for the period between December 15, 2026 and January 15, 2027.
Air Peace also instructed Effiong to submit his previous booking reference, a scanned copy of his passport and details of his preferred new flight itinerary to the airline’s call centre to claim the offer.
The compensation followed an earlier directive by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) after a preliminary investigation into the flight disruption.
The NCAA had found that affected passengers were sent an incorrect notification ahead of the scheduled 6:45 a.m. Lagos Enugu flight.
Effiong had earlier said he arrived at Terminal One of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos at about 5:50 a.m., but was subsequently informed that the flight had been delayed. He said the flight eventually departed much later in the day, causing him to miss a scheduled court appearance in Enugu State.
The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, explained that the disruption was linked to an earlier operational disruption and directed Air Peace to compensate affected passengers in accordance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.
Reacting to the compensation, Effiong acknowledged the airline’s gesture but said he believed broader concerns about passenger service and consumer protection remained.
He also commended the response of the NCAA and called for stronger regulatory measures to safeguard the rights of air passengers.
The development highlights the role of aviation regulators in addressing passenger complaints and ensuring that airlines comply with consumer-protection requirements.
