FIFA President Gianni Infantino has highlighted the progress made by African countries in gaining approval to host international football matches on their own soil.
Speaking on the development, Infantino said about two years ago, around 26 African nations were unable to stage their home matches in their respective countries due to stadium and infrastructure requirements.
He noted that the situation has improved significantly, with 40 of Africa’s 54 nations now able to host their home fixtures on home soil.
According to Infantino, only 14 countries currently remain unable to host matches at home, marking a notable improvement compared with the situation two years ago.
The FIFA president said the ultimate objective is for all 54 African nations to have the capacity to host their international fixtures in their own countries.
Infantino added that FIFA will continue working with the affected nations and provide the necessary support to help them meet the required standards and achieve that goal.
