The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended campaigns and all party activities for three days in honour of soldiers and crew members who died in a recent military aircraft crash in Ondo State.

The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku.

According to the PDP, the decision was taken as a mark of respect for the deceased and in solidarity with their grieving families.

The party directed its ward, local government and senatorial district structures, as well as its candidates, to immediately suspend political activities during the period.

The PDP described the crash as a painful loss to the nation, extending condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased, as well as the Nigerian Army and the wider Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The party said the sacrifices of the fallen personnel would not be forgotten and prayed for comfort and strength for their families.

Meanwhile, the Imo PDP also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies over the rescue of the 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted in the state.

The party said the safe release of the prospective corps members was a relief, particularly to their families, and acknowledged the efforts of security personnel involved in the operation.

The PDP called for continued efforts to address insecurity and protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

The party concluded its statement by expressing condolences to the families of those who died in the aircraft crash and praying for the repose of their souls.
