AS Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar is expected to be sidelined for around one month after suffering a stress fracture to his fifth toe during training, with Pierluigi Gollini set to replace him between the posts.

Roma have been dealt an injury setback following the news that Svilar will miss several weeks after sustaining a stress fracture to his fifth toe during a training session.

Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed the goalkeeper’s condition, explaining that the Serbian international is unlikely to return until after the next international break.

“He will probably return after the next international break. Gollini will take his place,” Gasperini said.

Svilar’s absence means Gollini is expected to take over goalkeeping duties for Roma during the recovery period. The Italian goalkeeper will have an opportunity to feature regularly as the club navigate their upcoming fixtures without their first-choice shot-stopper.

Roma will hope Svilar makes a full recovery and returns to action as expected, although his progress will be monitored during the rehabilitation period. His injury comes as a setback for Gasperini, who will need to adjust his goalkeeping options until the 25-year-old is fit to return.
