The Anambra State Hospital Management Board (SHMB) has warned Health Information Management Officers across the state against delays in submitting monthly reports, reiterating that all health facilities must meet the seventh day deadline each month.
The Director of Medical Support Services of the Board, Mrs Nneka Uzor, gave the directive during a meeting and training session for health information personnel held on October 9 at the Board’s conference hall.
Uzor stressed the importance of maintaining accurate and complete medical records, submitting health data promptly and protecting patients’ confidential information. She cautioned the officers against disclosing sensitive medical information to unauthorised persons, describing confidentiality as a fundamental professional responsibility.
Also speaking, the Head of Health Information Management at the Board, Mrs Ijeoma Onyeogulu, outlined guidelines for compiling, managing and submitting health information.
She explained that accurate, complete and reliable data from health facilities are essential for effective healthcare planning, policymaking and service delivery. According to her, quality health information enables relevant authorities to assess facility performance, identify gaps and make informed decisions on healthcare priorities.
The Board directed the officers to submit their monthly reports on or before the seventh day of every month, warning that failure to comply with the deadline could attract disciplinary action.

Participants also discussed their work experiences and challenges in their respective facilities. Newly recruited officers, in particular, welcomed the training, noting that it had strengthened their understanding of health information management and reporting procedures.
The Board reiterated the need for professionalism, timely reporting and strict adherence to confidentiality standards to improve health data management and support effective healthcare delivery across Anambra State.
