Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has urged Lagos residents to ensure President Bola Tinubu does not suffer another electoral defeat in the state in the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu lost Lagos to Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election. Obi polled 582,454 votes against Tinubu’s 572,606, according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Tompolo, who leads the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, made the appeal through his representative, Kestin Pondi, at a campaign rally in Lagos on Tuesday. The event, organised to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election, also featured the presentation of 57 campaign vehicles to the movement’s state coordinators.
“What happened in 2023 must not repeat. He must win convincingly in 2027,” he said.
Tompolo described Tinubu as a selfless and courageous leader who had continued to implement bold reforms despite the possible political consequences for his re-election. He added that the policies were already producing results for Nigerians.
He also praised Tinubu’s role in transforming Lagos, arguing that the foundation laid during his tenure as governor had enabled successive administrations to build on the state’s development.
“Lagos is the city for all Nigerians because someone stood firm to restructure and reform it. From the time he came into office in 1999 up to 2007 that he left, Lagos was the envy of other states,” he said.
“Today, he has a higher responsibility, an opportunity to replicate the Lagos success story in Nigeria through reforms. There is massive development across the states today because reforms are working.”
Tompolo urged Lagos residents and Nigerians in other parts of the country to take the campaign to households and mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election, claiming that Nigeria was moving towards economic stability under the current administration.
Sanwo-Olu urged residents to disregard opposition politicians, whom he accused of lacking clear plans for the country and moving between political parties in pursuit of electoral victory.
He cited road construction, student support programmes, an increase in the minimum wage and the provision of funds for pension payments as achievements of the Tinubu administration.
“Why won’t we vote for him? The entire Lagos is for Tinubu. All our votes are for Tinubu. You’ve done it before, you’ll do it again,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also called on supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the state.
“We will touch every corner of Lagos with our message to reelect Tinubu. Go out and convince everyone that Tinubu is the candidate to vote.”
Meanwhile, Sunday Asuku, national coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, urged residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the 2027 presidential election.
“We must stand our ground and deliver Tinubu with PVCs, not with guns or intimidation. Lagos must not put their son, Tinubu, to shame,” he said.
Asuku further called on Nigerians to use the election to retire what he described as “serial contesters”, whom he called “enemies of Nigeria”.
