Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has said he intends to leave office in 2030 when his current presidential term ends, describing the matter as already decided.
“In 2030, I will end my term as president. This matter is decided. We’ll live and see,” Sisi said.
The statement signals his intention not to remain in office beyond his current term, although the circumstances surrounding Egypt’s political transition in 2030 remain to be seen.
Sisi, who first became president in 2014, won re-election in December 2023 for a third term, which is scheduled to run until 2030 under Egypt’s constitutional framework.
His latest remarks come amid continued attention to Egypt’s political future and the question of leadership succession after his presidency.
