The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to improving students’ welfare through the provision of decent accommodation and a conducive living environment.
Professor Akanwa made this known during an inspection of ongoing rehabilitation works at the university’s students’ hostels, stressing that the quality of students’ living conditions plays an important role in shaping their character, creativity and academic performance.
The Vice-Chancellor recalled the poor condition of some hostel facilities before the intervention, explaining that the rehabilitation project was aimed at providing students with a healthier and more comfortable environment to support their academic pursuits.
She urged students to comply with hostel rules and regulations to ensure the proper maintenance of the renovated facilities.
Professor Akanwa also directed hostel porters to conduct routine inspections and ensure that weekly sanitation exercises are carried out to maintain cleanliness and order within the hostels.
She warned that students found responsible for damaging university property would be surcharged, while repeat offenders could face eviction from the hostels.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasised that sustaining the improved facilities requires cooperation between students and hostel management, noting that the university’s investment in hostel rehabilitation reflects its commitment to student welfare and academic success.
