Veteran Nollywood actress Nse Ikpe-Etim has celebrated her 52nd birthday with a reflective message on her acting career, personal growth and the importance of embracing both successes and setbacks.
The award-winning actress used the occasion to reflect on the contradictions of life in the entertainment industry, acknowledging that her career has included films she remains proud of and others she would approach differently if given another opportunity.
In her birthday message, Ikpe-Etim recalled coming across a headline that described her as “A Charismatic Star in a Cluster of Bad Movies,” noting the irony of being praised and criticised at the same time.
Reflecting on the experience, she said growing older had taught her to appreciate the different experiences and decisions that shape a person’s life.
The actress acknowledged that she had experienced moments of certainty and doubt, as well as public recognition, misunderstanding, applause and periods of being overlooked.
Despite these experiences, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have lived, learned and continued to grow through the different stages of her life and career.
According to her, she is becoming less concerned with presenting a perfect personal story and more appreciative of the privilege of having a story to tell.
Ikpe-Etim also drew a comparison between life and filmmaking, observing that neither should be judged solely by its best or worst moments.
She suggested that one of the gifts of ageing is learning to accept life as a whole, including the experiences one might have preferred to change.
