The Executive Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Hon. Ikechukwu Mofunanya, popularly known as Ezeoba, has assured residents, traders and motorists that the Ochanja Roundabout Water Fountain will be restored to full operation by Monday, November 2, 2026.

The Mayor gave the assurance on Friday, October 30, 2026, during an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation works at the popular roundabout in Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to him, the rehabilitation is expected to be completed by Monday, bringing the water fountain back into operation after remaining non-functional for more than two months.

Ezeoba also disclosed plans to introduce a solar-powered borehole system and other essential facilities as part of efforts to improve the sustainability and efficient operation of the fountain.

The Mayor commended Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for his urban renewal initiative, particularly the transformation of Ochanja Roundabout from a refuse dump and animal carcass disposal site into an attractive public landmark featuring a modern, multi-tiered water fountain.

He noted that the ongoing rehabilitation was necessary to preserve the beauty of the facility and sustain the developmental vision behind its transformation.

The Mayor also cautioned traders and other individuals against hawking around the fountain, warning that activities capable of obstructing access, compromising cleanliness or damaging the facility would not be tolerated.

He urged residents and traders to take collective responsibility for protecting public infrastructure and maintaining a clean environment.

Ezeoba reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure maintenance, environmental improvement and the protection of public assets across Onitsha South.

The Mayor was accompanied during the inspection by his Chief of Staff, Barr. KK Oguejiofor, Esq.

He stressed that urban renewal does not end with the construction or rehabilitation of public facilities but also requires proper maintenance and responsible use by members of the community.
