Tigran Gambaryan, the detained Binance executive, has taken legal action against the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging violations of his fundamental rights.
In a motion filed by his lawyer, Olujoke Aliyu, Gambaryan sought various reliefs before Justice Inyang Ekwo, challenging his detention and the seizure of his international travel passport.
Joined by Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance’s Africa regional manager who escaped custody, Gambaryan filed suits against the Office of NSA (ONSA) and EFCC, seeking similar reliefs.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that t
heir suits, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/356/24 and FHC/ABJ/CS/355/24, sought declarations of rights violations, release from custody, injunctions against further detention, and a public apology.
Gambaryan, a US citizen, visited Nigeria to discuss Binance matters but was detained afterward without formal charges.
Represented by T.J. Krukrubo, SAN, the applicants appeared in court, while the respondents were absent.
Justice Ekwo granted an adjournment to allow the applicants to seek new legal representation and the respondents to respond to the suits by April 8.
