Amidst escalating tensions within the Labour Party, a disturbing incident happened as Julius Abure, the National Chairman, narrowly escaped an alleged assassination attempt at his Abuja residence, compounded by a mysterious fire that engulfed the premises.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, disclosed this, detailing the perilous moments as Abure and his family faced imminent danger in the dead of night.
Ifoh said, “The entire family were trapped as the inferno had reached the staircase making it impossible for Abure and family to escape.
“However, it took divine intervention for the national chairman and his family to escape after neighbours and security men gallantly pulled down one of the windows upstairs making ways for the family to escape.”
Despite their miraculous escape, Abure and his family require medical attention, underscoring the severity of the ordeal.
As the cause of the fire incident is yet to be disclosed by the authorities, the Labour Party continues to grapple with a deepening leadership crisis exacerbated by calls for Abure’s resignation and allegations of financial impropriety.
The recent national convention in Nnewi, Anambra State, witnessed Abure’s contentious re-election, further inflaming tensions within the party amidst opposition from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other stakeholders.
With conflicting factions vying for control and challenging the NLC’s authority over party affairs, internal rift has intensified, deepening the party’s woes.
