The Dean of Borno Elders Forum, Prof Khalifa Dikwa, has shed light on the dissatisfaction brewing among the northern elite towards President Bola Tinubu’s governance.
According to him, this discontent stems from Tinubu’s perceived misfit and weak appointees, coupled with his implementation of what he terms as “anti-people policies.”
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Prof Dikwa emphasized that the northern elite’s unhappiness is deeply rooted in the adverse effects these policies have on the entire northern region.
He highlighted the issue of lopsided appointments, stating that many of the appointees are either unfit for their roles or have been placed in inappropriate positions.
The elder statesman’s concerns extend beyond the northern elite, as he believes that even the southern elite should be troubled by the current state of affairs.
Prof Dikwa emphasized the need for a broader perspective, stating that Nigeria’s interests surpass the confines of Lagos.
Adding fuel to the fire, Prof Dikwa labeled the recent introduction of a 0.5% cybersecurity levy on electronic transactions by the Central Bank of Nigeria as “provocative.”
He called on President Tinubu to intervene and halt the implementation of this policy, citing its untimely nature and its potential to further provoke the already discontent populace.
“This is not the time, it’s wrong timing. Why are they provoking the people of this country? They have taken enough,” he exclaimed, underscoring the urgency of addressing these grievances.
