Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has expressed his concerns over the promotion of toxic politics and the “pull him down” syndrome by some politicians in the North against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Despite positive development indices, the governor noted that these politicians are engaging in blame games instead of introspection and constructive action.
According to Daily Trust, Governor Sani made these remarks during a meeting with the newly elected leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), led by Chairman Mamman Mike Osuman (SAN), at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Monday.
He emphasized the need for Northerners to face hard truths and work together to advance the region.
“Despite the development indices, unfortunately, what people see in the North is the promotion of toxic politics, opposition for opposition’s sake, and ‘pull him down’ syndrome,” Governor Sani stated.
He urged Northerners to ask critical questions and seek solutions to their challenges.
Governor Sani reassured the ACF leadership that the region would soon overcome its current security and socio-economic issues.
He dismissed the narrative that President Tinubu is against the North as false and stressed that the federal government is providing substantial support to Northern state governments.
“We must take a hard look at ourselves, tell ourselves some home truths, and move together to fashion a common strategy to address our developmental challenges and confront the criminals making life unbearable for our people,” he added.
The ACF Chairman, Mamman Mike Osuman, highlighted the region’s struggles with poverty, illiteracy, health, and security. He called for urgent action from leaders and citizens to change this narrative.
“It is therefore incumbent on our leaders and citizens alike to change the narrative without further delay,” Osuman said. He also clarified that the ACF does not support the planned national protest, deeming it ill-timed and counterproductive.
Osuman further mentioned that the ACF remains committed to advocating for Northern interests, referencing the recently constituted Technical Committee’s review of the 1999 Constitution. The findings will be shared with the Northern Governors’ Forum to help guide future actions.
