The day three #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests took a dramatic turn on Saturday in Kano as youths of the state were seen matching on the streets, waving Russian flags and calling for urgent intervention from Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
Since Thursday, August 1, angry Nigerian youths have taken to the streets, demanding better governance and an end to pressing issues such as food inflation, general inflation, and high living costs being witnessed under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
MUK TV reports that the implementation of stringent neoliberal economic policies recommended to the Tinubu government by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other Bretton Woods institutions, have worsened the economic conditions of the country.
Although Nigeria has no ideological tie with Russia, the leader of the Socialist and Eastern bloc, the unusual display of Russian flags highlights the protesters’ frustration with Tinubu’s Western-induced handling of the current economic crisis, which has intensified hunger and hardship.
The protesters’ demands for Putin’s intervention reflect the growing discontent among Nigerians who feel their grievances are not being addressed by their own government.
