The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to resist any attempt to impose Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, as the next governor of the state.

This declaration comes in response to recent endorsements by groups advocating for Seyi’s potential candidacy to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027.

Among them, the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders endorsed Seyi Tinubu on Tuesday in Owerri, Imo State, suggesting he could also consider governorship runs in Osun or Imo states, where his family reportedly has roots.

More so, a socio-political group, Friends of Seyi Tinubu, described him as a visionary leader possessing intellect, empathy, and strategic acumen.

However, these endorsements have sparked political backlash in the media space.

In an interview, Lagos PDP spokesperson Hakeem Amode dismissed the notion of Seyi Tinubu as governor, saying, “Lagos will not serve him.”

He argued against treating governorship as an inheritance, stating, “Governorship is not a gift.”

Amode warned that if the Tinubu camp employed similar strategies used in Ondo and Edo states, Lagosians would resist.

He pointed to the fact that many Lagos residents did not vote for Tinubu in the last presidential election as evidence of potential opposition to his son’s candidacy.

The Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths also condemned the idea of a Tinubu family member leading Lagos, asserting that non-indigenes should not govern the state.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesperson in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, dismissed the 2027 governorship discussions as premature.

“It is too early to be discussing the 2027 elections,” he stated, urging citizens to focus on supporting the current administration.

Prominent APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe also voiced his disapproval on Facebook, writing, “Who are these faceless people pushing Seyi Tinubu for Lagos Governor? This is a needless distraction. The real target is to bring down President Bola Tinubu. Ruling Lagos is not a job for amateurs.”
