The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that his decision to oust Prince Uche Secondus as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was driven by the need to ensure Siminalayi Fubara became Rivers State governor.
Wike made the revelation on Thursday while serving as the special guest of honour at an end-of-year thanksgiving organized by PDP stakeholders in Ahoada East and Ahoada West at the Ukpata community in Ekpeye Kingdom.
Explaining his actions, Wike accused Secondus of plotting to install his cousin and former Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, as Rivers governor instead of Fubara.
“I kicked out Secondus as PDP chairman when he wanted to make his cousin Tele Ikuru to be governor,” Wike declared.
He also criticized former Rivers Governor Celestine Omehia, calling him “an imbecile” for questioning his contributions to Rivers State as FCT Minister.
Wike defended his tenure, highlighting the numerous appointments he secured for Rivers people under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“Let it be on record that by the instrumentality of Mr President, there is no governor in this state that attracted more political appointments in this state than myself. Go and count it,” he said.
Wike further stressed his past accomplishments as Minister of Education, noting infrastructural and academic advancements in Rivers institutions, including the University of Port Harcourt and Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic.
“When I was Minister of Education, I brought Faculty of Law to the University of Port Harcourt. I gave grants to Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic and Ignatius Ajuru University. I renovated Federal Government College, Port Harcourt, and Federal Government Girls College, Abuloma,” Wike recounted.
On his current role as FCT Minister, Wike clarified that his jurisdiction does not allow him to bring infrastructure projects to Rivers but asserted he has consistently supported its people.
“I cannot take FCT money to Rivers State, but I have been helping Rivers people. We have been helping Rivers people, and we will continue to help Rivers people,” Wike said.
Wike also questioned the integrity of some traditional rulers in Ekpeye land, accusing them of lacking character and moral values.
