The Abia South Senatorial candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Engr. Chinedu Onyeizu evaded what could have been an assassination attempt on his life.
We gathered that the gunmen, suspected to be assassins, invaded Onyeizu’s house in search of him.
According to an eyewitness, the hoodlums stormed the country home of the Labour Party’s senatorial candidate at Abayi Ohanze, in Obingwa local government of the state, on Friday night and held his brothers, who were in the compound, hostage for over two hours and demanded to be led to Onyeizu.
And when they were told that he was not around, the gunmen, who were convinced of him being around, said that it couldn’t be true since he was earlier seen at the burial of Chief Vincent Ogbulafor.
Not satisfied that their primary target was not at home, and after rummaging through the entire compound, the gunmen manhandled the victims, took their phones, and fled.
Sources close to the senatorial candidate, however, confirmed that he evaded the ugly incident because of a sudden and impromptu change of his itinerary.
Onyeizu was said to be on his way home from Ogbulafor’s burial when he received a call from Senator Darlington Nwokocha.
He, thereafter, made a U-turn and diverted to Isiala Ngwa to see the Labour Party lawmaker, a visit that delayed him from getting home on time.
