Rita Ushie, simply known as Raye on Instagram, has had her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year extended by two months following a disciplinary review—months after her viral video lambasting President Bola Tinubu’s government over Nigeria’s economic crisis gained national attention.
Raye, who had just one month left before completing her service, claimed in March that NYSC officials pressured her to remove the video.
After weeks of silence, she was unexpectedly summoned to the Iyana Ipaja orientation camp in Lagos on June 18.
There, without any formal letter or documentation, she was verbally informed that her service year would be extended as punishment.
The Take It Back Movement, which has supported Raye throughout the ordeal, said she had to travel again at her own expense to face a second disciplinary panel.
According to her family, the decision has left her emotionally devastated.
