The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, says it would embark on indefinite strike over unpaid June salary of its members.

ASUU said that the industrial action would take full effect as from 12:00 am on Friday, July 4.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the University of Jos Branch Chairman, Prof. Jurbe Molwus, made available to journalists in Jos, the Plateau State Capital on Thursday.

He said that the decision followed a resolution of its congress, held on June 4th, 2025.

It reads: “This is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June is not paid by 11:59p.m.

This is in line with the extant resolution of the National Executive Council that branches should take action when salary is not paid by the third day of a new month.

“It is also in line with our resolution during the congress held June 4, affirming this position.

The action takes effect from 12:00 a.m on Friday, July 4,” he said.

The chairman called on its members to fully comply with the directive until communicated otherwise.

He said that its strike monitoring team would be activated to monitor absolute compliance.
