Pastor Tunde Bakare, former presidential aspirant and founder of The Citadel Global Community Church, has asserted that Nigeria was never broken but rather deliberately “designed to fail,” urging a nationwide “revolution of values” to salvage the country’s future.

Delivering a hard-hitting sermon on Sunday titled A Disgrace to Grace at his Lagos-based church, Bakare said Nigeria’s troubles come from a corrupt political structure built on tribalism, injustice, and impunity.

The system is not broken, he said. It was designed to fail the people. And no amount of cosmetic reform will fix it. What Nigeria needs is a complete overhaul, a value revolution.

He criticised a culture that rewards corruption with public office while sidelining voices of integrity.

This country is bleeding. It is governed by men who do not know justice, who are far from righteousness. A nation that celebrates looters and punishes truth-tellers cannot survive.

Bakare emphasized that his call for change was not a push for violent protest but for a “revolution of conscience” rooted in selfless leadership. He said only a new generation of visionary, competent, and just leaders could alter Nigeria’s direction.

He also took aim at religious leaders who, according to him, have abandoned their moral duty for proximity to power.

How can we claim to represent Christ and yet remain silent in the face of wickedness? The Church must lead the value revolution.

Bakare concluded with a stern warning that Nigeria’s survival hinges on a deep moral rebirth founded on justice and equity, not superficial reforms.

The hour has come. The old order must give way to the new. We cannot build a great nation on a foundation of lies, greed and oppression. The soul of Nigeria is at stake.
