Tensions flared up in Ghana’s capital, Accra, as a group of angry citizens took to the streets at the popular Circle area, demanding the expulsion of Nigerians over alleged involvement in various criminal and immoral activities.
A viral video of the protest, which surfaced online on Sunday and was shared by Nigerian activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju on X, shows a large crowd of demonstrators wielding placards with bold accusations.
The protesters claimed that the presence of Nigerians in Ghana has led to rising cases of prostitution, kidnapping, ritual killings, and violent crimes, posing serious threats to public safety and morality.
Some of the messages displayed on the placards read: “Our health at stake due to mass prostitution,” “Nigerians are kidnapping and using people for rituals,” and “Armed robbery and violent attacks must stop.”
Speaking in the video, one protester said Nigerians in Ghana have shown disregard for local laws and culture.
She said, “Nigerians must go because you can’t be in someone’s country and be doing anyhow.”
