A police inspector, Aminu Ibrahim, is dead after his own AK-47 went off inside a toilet in Kano.
The shocking incident happened around 5:40 am on Saturday at Hotoro, where the officer was on duty.
Preliminary findings revealed Ibrahim was squatting with his rifle slung around his neck when the weapon discharged straight into his stomach.
“The rifle, with registration number GT 4177, was recovered cocked and unsafe, alongside an empty shell. Twenty-nine rounds of ammunition were accounted for against the 30 earlier issued to him,” a source told Zagazola Makama.
The inspector was rushed to hospital but doctors confirmed him dead. His body has since been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
Police authorities have yet to comment on the grim twist.
