
Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/ Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two fake police officers and intercepted two Toyota Hilux vehicles loaded with cannabis in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
In a statement, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said the operation followed credible intelligence which led to the arrest at Takum Junction. The suspects, dressed in mobile police uniforms, were transporting the drugs when they were apprehended.
Preliminary investigations revealed that none of the occupants were serving policemen. One of the suspects was identified as Monday George, 71, a dismissed Police ASP, while the second was named as Ezeugo Destiny Uche, 41. The cannabis-laden vehicles were traced to Akure, Ondo State, with Adamawa State as the intended destination.
Troops recovered a total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis from the two vehicles. The suspects, alongside the seized exhibits, have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the occupants of the second Hilux fled the scene on sighting troops, abandoning the vehicle and its illicit cargo.
The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for their synergy and vigilance. He reiterated the Brigade’s resolve to ensure Taraba remains unsafe for criminals and drug traffickers, while urging residents to continue providing timely information to support ongoing operations.
