The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened today as the faction of the party led by Nyesom Wike announced the expulsion of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, and others from its ranks. In addition to these expulsions, the faction also dissolved the entire party executives in Oyo, Bauchi, Ekiti, Zamfara, Edo, and Lagos States.

Party officials stated that the disciplinary actions were taken in response to perceived anti-party activities and unresolved leadership disputes that have lingered since the last national convention. The dissolved state executives are accused of undermining internal party resolutions and collaborating with opposition interests within their respective regions.

This dramatic move came after emergency meetings called by the Wike-led faction’s National Executive Committee (NEC), with party insiders saying the intent is to “rebuild the party from the ground up in affected states and restore order at the national level.” The affected governors and officials are reportedly weighing legal and political responses. Meanwhile, rival factions within the PDP have condemned the expulsions, calling them “illegal and divisive,” and are expected to respond with counter-actions in the coming days.

The internal strife raises questions about the party’s unity and its prospects leading into the next election cycle, with rival PDP camps signaling further escalations if mediation efforts fail.
